Round 2

What a game – to not be in front at all through the whole of regular time, but still come away with 4 points is a bonus, with the game showing that things may not go your way, but if you hang in there and tuff it out, who knows what can happen.

The players, although not playing well (mainly due to CBC’s skills & pressure), never gave up and we certainly thought that the longer we gave ourselves a chance to win, the more that win might come and it did.

We were very lucky in the first half that our defence stood strong, otherwise the deficit would have been a lot more than 3 goals. The 3rd quarter was one where we just wanted to get close enough to give ourselves a chance in the last. The midfield, led by Andrew James, certainly lifted their work ethic and gave the forwards more chances to close the gap. The gap could have closed quicker, if not even turned into a lead, if Marty Atkins had not brought 2 left feet. 2 goals, 6 points a disappointing return, especially considering the efforts of getting the pill inside 50 in the first place.

The last quarter was just a good pressure quarter of footy and with seconds to go, a big high ball into the fifty, fell straight into the arms of Shaun Williams – siren goes, 5 points down. Every boy’s footy dream and Willo went bang, well he didn’t, he just managed to kick it over the man on the mark, who was fifteen meters out, but it did go straight and that’s all that counts.

2 wins and things going ok, but if this game is any indication, newly promoted Collegians (who beat CBC in last years B Grade final) will also want to continue their good early form. All goes well for what should be another good game of footy. See you at South Oval.
